Kindergarten - 2nd GradesKindergarten- Children at this age are primarily solo learners. The focus is on moving within general space and personal space. Once able to move effectively in their space, they can focus on objects such as tossables and other manipulatives.
1st Grade- Students at this age expand their movement skills to include a variety of movement concepts, such as directions, speeds, levels, and pathways. 2nd Grade- At this stage, students explore movement patterns with a partner to define movement in rlation to another person, shape, or group. Because students are flexible in interacting with partners, activities encourage partner changes. In the applicatino of rules, fairness at this stage is flexible, and children are likely to make up their own rules as they play together. Total physical response - response with the enitre body - occurs in motor movement as students learn to define movement in relation to another person, shape, group, or group shape. |
3rd - 5th Grades3rd Grade- Although introduced in earlier grades, 3rd graders start learning the fundmental skills essential to being successful playing sports such as: basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc.
4th Grade- Although students in 4th grade may have been introduced to the fundamentals of a sport in the previous year, they will revisit the bsics at the beginning of each unit. Students will progress through a unit to build up to small-sided games. 5th grade- Many students at this level have extensive prior experience with teh subject matter, either through PE classes or youth sports. Therefore, they may progress through units quickly. However, skills will be reviewed and practiced extensively until the basic skills have been improved. 5th grade classes participate in challenge-by-choice competitions and some modified sport challenges. |
