My name is AJ Kantor and I am the PE/Wellness Teacher at Shepardson Elementary School in Fort Collins, CO. I was born and raised in a small town called Julesburg, CO. Julesburg is a tiny town, no more than 1,200 people call Julesburg home. In fact, when I graduated high school, I was one of 18 graduates in my class! When I was in 3rd grade, Julesburg School District hired a new PE teacher, Dennis Hill. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Hill as my PE teacher from 3rd grade until I graduated High School. I looked up to Mr. Hill, not just his teaching ability, but his ability to build relationships with his students and the community. Everybody looked up to him, including myself. In 5th grade I realized something that would change the rest of my life. I wanted to be like Mr. Hill! I wanted to be a Physical Education Teacher. Every decision I made from that point on was geared toward this goal. After graduating high school, I got accepted into the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. I majored in Sports and Exercise Science: K-12 Physical Education.
Through a series of random events, I got placed at Shepardson for my final assignment at UNC. It was there I met Greg Neal. I had the privilidge to work with Mr. Neal for 6 weeks, learning from his years of experience and natural teaching ability. I have Mr. Neal to thank for everything I do today! Teeing off on the 11th hole at Ptarmigan Country Club, I recieved the best call of my entire life! Dr. Sommers from Shepardson offered me the open PE job at Shepardson after a few interviews. I couldn't be any more excited, my dream had came true! After 3 years, I still feel like I am in a dream! I am very proud of Shepardson and everything we do here!
I enjoy all sports, but am mostly obsessed with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. You can find me on Saturdays during the fall either on the edge of my couch or pacing around my house, of course wearing RED! Some of my favorite past-times include Disc Golf, Hiking and just staying healthy.
